The Kazakhstan national football team drew 2-2 with the Faroe Islands in a home Nations League match. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
New Kazakhstan head coach John van't Schip, true to a spontaneously established tradition, fielded a new starting lineup. The fourth in four matches. Changes affected every line without exception. Goalkeeper Temirlan Anarbekov, defender Alibek Kasym, midfielder Georgiy Zhukov and forward Maksim Samorodov made their Nations League 2026/27 debuts.
How Islambek Kuat, standing three meters from an empty goal in the 16th minute, failed to hit the target is something even the Zhetysu midfielder himself could hardly explain. If you don't score...
Five minutes later, the islanders rattled the frame of Anarbekov's goal after a corner. A minute later, continuing a series of corners, the Faroese opened the scoring. Petur Knudsen responded to a cross from Kyzylzhar midfielder Joannes Bjartalid – 1:0.
In the 31st minute, Martin Agnarsson nearly doubled the score. The defender of Swedish club Mjallby, not noticing resistance from his counterpart Nauyrzbek Zhagorov, fired from a good position against the post. In the 36th minute, Anarbekov pulled the ball out of the near corner.
And what about the Kazakhs? Half-chances from Samorodov and a yellow card for the Akhmat player for arguing with Estonian referee Kristo Tohver – that was all that was memorable in the first half. The Faroes, in their style, retreated behind the ball line in full force. And what to do with that very ball our players could not figure out for 45 minutes.

Immediately after the break, Artur Shushenachev replaced Ramazan Karimov, and Yan Vorogovskiy replaced Stanislav Basmanov. This did not change the pattern of the game. In the 51st minute, Aki Samuelsen spared the hosts, shooting from the penalty area just wide of the post. Samorodov responded with a "parachute" that hit the crossbar.
In the 63rd minute, midfielder of English club Grimsby Geza Turi celebrated his 25th birthday with a beautiful curled shot from the edge of the penalty area, removing the cobweb from Anarbekov's top corner.
Trailing 0:2, the Kazakhs seemed to press the accelerator pedal. Samorodov forced Agnarsson to foul him. He left the field for a second yellow, and soon Sergei Malyi opened the scoring against Matthias Lamhauge – 1:2.
New jokers Ismail Bekbolat and Zhasulan Amir, who replaced Zhukov and Zhagorov, were called upon to add even more sharpness in attack. And in the 76th minute, Nuraly Alip equalized – 2:2.
The hosts' attacks, as they rushed to score the winning goal, were interrupted by Malyi's sending-off in the 85th minute. The referee, without hesitation, showed red to our defender for a foul on Matthias Hellisdal, who had appeared on the field three minutes earlier. In the 10v10 format, no goals were scored – 2:2.
