The state television and radio company Khabar has commented on reports that Kazakhstan would take part in the international song contest Eurovision 2027. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Media outlets reported that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) had rejected a bid from the state television and radio company Khabar to take part in Eurovision in 2027. This was written by the news portal Politico.
Citing European organisers, Politico writes: "Kazakhstan is outside the European Broadcasting Area, is not a member of the Council of Europe and does not have observer status with this organisation. In this regard, Khabar, which applied for EBU membership, does not meet the established criteria."
However, Khabar Agency categorically denied this information.
"In recent days, information has been circulating on social networks and in the information space that Khabar Agency sent a bid for Kazakhstan's participation in the international song contest Eurovision 2027; this information is not true," Khabar Agency said.
According to the agency, in order to avoid various misunderstandings, it considered it appropriate to clarify the chronology of interaction and the level of partnership with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
"In a letter dated 4 July 2025, the agency did send an official letter to the EBU leadership. The letter stated Kazakhstan's participation in the Eurovision 2026 contest, as well as consideration of the possibility of the Agency moving to the status of a full member of the EBU. The EBU replied on 29 January 2026. The letter stated that granting the request for representatives of Kazakhstan to participate in the Eurovision 2026 contest within the framework of the current procedure is impossible," Khabar said.
According to the agency, Khabar did not send any bid or official request to participate in the 2027 contest. As of today, no negotiations are being held on this issue, and no national selection is planned.
