Kazakhstan's Institute of Nuclear Physics and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) have signed a memorandum on participation in the international DRD1 collaboration, which develops gas detectors. This was reported by the Kazakh Foreign Ministry. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The document was signed during a visit by a Kazakh delegation to CERN in Geneva. It provides for expanding the participation of domestic scientists in joint research, the development of modern technologies and international scientific projects.
The delegation, led by Deputy Chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency A. Makhambetov, held talks with CERN Director-General M. Thomson. The visit was organized with the assistance of Kazakhstan's Permanent Mission to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva.
The parties discussed deepening partnership in nuclear physics, high-energy physics and fundamental research.
The Kazakh side also proposed creating a scientific data processing center on the basis of the Institute of Nuclear Physics with the prospect of connecting to CERN's computing infrastructure. According to the report, the organization's leadership responded positively to the initiative. It is being considered as one of the areas for further cooperation.
The ministry expects that the agreements reached will help develop the country's scientific potential, expand international research ties and strengthen the competencies of Kazakh specialists in advanced technologies.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that Kazakhstan's Institute of Nuclear Physics joined CERN's scientific collaboration in 2023. The institute cooperates with more than 30 international scientific structures and universities.
