Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi spoke at the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, presenting Kazakhstan's vision on key issues of the international agenda and outlining the country's priorities in political and sustainable development. Political reforms and the new Constitution
In his speech, the head of the foreign policy ministry paid special attention to the ongoing political transformations in Kazakhstan. He noted that the new 2026 Constitution strengthened the emphasis on human dignity, human capital development, education, innovation and environmental responsibility.
The minister also stressed the significance of last month's elections to the new Kurultai, as a result of which a broad spectrum of public forces is represented in parliament, and the share of women reached a historic maximum – 34%.
"For Kazakhstan, multilateralism is a key instrument for strengthening trust, finding common solutions and achieving concrete results for our citizens and future generations. It is also an important component of the long-term political transformation of our country," Tleuberdi said.
International security and disarmament
Separate attention in the speech was devoted to issues of international security and disarmament. The head of the Foreign Ministry confirmed Kazakhstan's consistent position in favor of nuclear disarmament and the resumption of dialogue between nuclear powers, and also noted the country's initiative to strengthen the Biological Weapons Convention through the creation of an International Agency for Biological Safety.
Sustainable development and the environment
Speaking about the country's further development, the minister emphasized the interconnection between political modernization, sustainable development and a responsible attitude toward the environment. Kazakhstan intends to continue promoting international cooperation in the field of environmental protection, combating climate change, preserving biodiversity and strengthening water security.
In this context, Tleuberdi noted the results of the Regional Environmental Summit held in Astana, the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan to establish an International Day of Greening the Planet on April 22, as well as the nationwide initiative "Taza Qazaqstan," aimed at forming a culture of environmental responsibility, civic engagement and careful attitude toward the public good.
Water security and international initiatives
Special emphasis was placed on water security as one of the key factors of sustainable development, food and energy security, climate resilience and peace. In this regard, Tokayev's initiative was presented to create an International Water Organization under the auspices of the UN, designed to contribute to the formation of a more holistic and effective system of international water resources management.
In conclusion, the minister confirmed Kazakhstan's commitment to the principles of multilateralism and its readiness to continue constructive interaction with all UN member states in the interests of peace, security and sustainable development.
Meeting with the UN Secretary-General
It was previously reported that Mukhtar Tleuberdi held a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the margins of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
The minister conveyed to him greetings from President Tokayev and, on behalf of the Head of State, expressed high appreciation for A. Guterres's activities in the context of a complex international situation.
