Today in Indonesia, the Asian Championships in age categories U19 and U23 under the auspices of World Boxing concluded. On the final competition day, finals in the men's bracket took place. The Kazakhstan team won five gold and eight silver medals. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Winners of the continental championship among athletes under 19 were Bibarys Ashirbay (70 kg) and Vladislav Samozhonov (+90 kg). In the decisive stage, they defeated Japan's Kunimitsu Honjo and Uzbekistan's Islam Salikhov, respectively.
One step away from the championship were Adil Askanbay (50 kg), Akzhurek Kalabay (65 kg), Timur Taybekov (80 kg), and Ruslan Akhmetov (85 kg). Askanbay, Taybekov, and Akhmetov lost to boxers from Uzbekistan, while Kalabay lost to an athlete from Korea.
Earlier, bronze medalists of the tournament were Yedige Nurguzha (55 kg) and Zhalgas Utebekov (90 kg).
In the U23 age category, the Kazakhstan team earned three golds. Asian champions became Aman Konysbek (75 kg), Temirlan Mukatayev (85 kg), and Ibragim Betayev (90 kg).
In the decisive bout, Konysbek defeated Kyrgyzstan's Almaz Orozbekov, Mukatayev defeated Uzbekistan's Norbek Abdullayev, and Betayev defeated another Uzbek, Samir Sobirov.
Silver medals were won by Beksultan Boranbek (55 kg), Nurassyl Tolebek (60 kg), Nurbek Mursal (70 kg), and Oner Seilkhan (80 kg). They lost to athletes from India, Japan, and Uzbekistan (twice).
Earlier, the bronze medal of the tournament was won by Aslan Yeldibayuly (+90 kg).
Yesterday, women's finals took place. The Kazakhstan team won six gold medals.
The 2026 Asian Boxing Championships in age categories U19 and U23 under the auspices of World Boxing were held in Jakarta (Indonesia) from July 5 to 16 with the participation of 329 athletes from 20 countries. A total of 40 sets of awards were played: 20 each among boys and girls. The Kazakhstan team was represented by a full lineup of 40 athletes.
