Kazakhstan plans to impose a six-month ban on wheat imports from third countries and countries of the Eurasian Economic Union by road, water, and rail transport. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The decision was made on June 5 by the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy and Participation in International Economic Organizations. Exceptions may be made for poultry and flour milling enterprises, licensed elevators, and the national company "Food Contract Corporation" for wheat imports by rail.

"For poultry and flour milling enterprises, imported wheat cannot be sold on domestic and foreign markets," the document states. The ban does not affect transit shipments through Kazakhstan or transit between EAEU countries. The draft will be under discussion until June 21, 2026.
