Kazakhstan's women's team won silver at the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand. In the final round, the Kazakh chess players drew 2:2 with Poland, defending the vice-champion title they won two years ago in Budapest. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
16-year-old Elnaz Kaliakhmet, as on the previous day, secured an extremely important victory. On move 45, our young Women's International Master forced Women's Grandmaster Alicja Sliwicka to resign.
Bibisara Assaubayeva and Meruert Kamalidenova concluded peace in their games. Alua Nurman lost with white on board two to Aleksandra Maltsevskaya. Kaliakhmet's win allowed the Kazakh team to achieve the draw that became silver.
China took the gold in Samarkand, defeating Vietnam 3:1 in the final round. The Chinese team led almost the entire tournament and deservedly won the Olympiad. The champions won 9 matches and drew only twice – with Kazakhstan and India. Our girls also never lost in the tournament.
