Kazakhstan's women's chess team defeated Armenia 3:1 in the 4th round of the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The first victory in Samarkand was secured by our team leader Bibisara Assaubayeva. To defeat Lilit Mkrtchian on the first board, our three-time world blitz champion, playing black, needed 35 moves.

Assaubayeva's winning start in the match against Armenia was supported by Elnaz Kaliakhmet. The 15-year-old Kazakhstani, playing white on the fourth board, defeated Susanna Gaboyan, achieving her fourth victory of the tournament. The games of Alua Nurman and Meruert Kamalidenova ended in draws.

Before the match against Armenia, the Kazakhstan team, with a 100% result (six team points out of six possible), shared 9th place in the standings on additional indicators. The standings after the 4th round will be published later.

The men's team of Kazakhstan, having lost to France in the previous round, immediately dropped to 48th place. Today our chess players performed well against the Japanese. Victories were achieved by Denis Makhnev, Sauat Nurgaliyev, and Daniyal Sapenov. Zhandos Agmanov drew. 398 teams, 1974 chess players, and 240 grandmasters are participating in the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand.

The tournament is held according to the Swiss system in 11 rounds. Each team consists of 4 players and 1 reserve. The time control is classical – 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, plus another 30 minutes. After each move, 30 seconds are added.

For a victory in a match, a team receives two team points, for a draw – one. In case of equality of points, additional indicators come into force — the Berger coefficient (the number of points scored by opponents), as well as the sum of individual points of each team member.

The winners of the men's tournament are awarded the Lord Frederick Gustavus Hamilton-Russell Cup, and the women's – the Vera Menchik Cup. The federation that becomes the best by the smallest sum of places of both teams is awarded the Nona Gaprindashvili Cup.
