Kazakhstan's women's table tennis team has advanced to the round of 16 at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. In their final group-stage match, the Kazakh players defeated Maldives 3:1. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The match took place in Group C. Zhanerke Koshkumbayeva played first for Kazakhstan. Then Zauresh Akasheva and Sarvinoz Mirkadirova stepped up to the table.
Mirkadirova won her match, while Akasheva brought two more victories to the team. As a result, Kazakhstan finished the encounter with a 3:1 score and secured a place in the playoffs.
In another group-stage match, the Kazakh team lost to South Korea (0:3). Thus, the victory over Maldives allowed the team to continue fighting for the tournament's medals.
Mirkadirova was the flag bearer for the Kazakhstan team at the opening ceremony of the XX Summer Asian Games.
The XX Summer Asian Games in Japan officially opened on September 19. Athletes from 45 countries are competing for 460 sets of medals: 217 in men's events, 204 in women's events, and 39 in mixed categories. The tournaments will be held in 68 disciplines across 41 sports.
A total of 559 athletes will represent Kazakhstan at the 2026 Asian Games. Earlier, Kazakh athletes won four gold medals. The champions of the Games were cyclists Rinata Sultanova and Alexey Lutsenko, as well as karatekas Zholaman Bigabyl and Sofya Berultseva.
