Kazakhstan is forming a new model for the development of biotechnologies. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The Ministry of Health and the National Academy of Sciences discussed a strategy aimed at creating a full cycle from domestic developments to implementation in practice. This includes the entire process from a scientific idea, laboratory development, to introduction into production and practical application.
Strategy Project Discussed
The draft strategy for the development of biotechnologies in Kazakhstan until 2036 was discussed at a joint meeting of the Ministry of Health and the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Opening the meeting, Minister Akmaral Alnazarova noted that the development of biotechnologies is an important direction not only for science but also for the country's technological development.
"Today we face the task of transitioning from individual scientific developments to a full-fledged system where knowledge and technologies are applied in practice. Our task is to create conditions for domestic developments to become sought-after technologies and serve to improve the health and quality of life of our citizens," she said.
Integration of Science and Production
According to the minister, it is especially important to combine the capabilities of science, education, healthcare, and production. "It is crucial for us that promising developments do not remain only at the laboratory level. They must go through the path to practical application in diagnostics, treatment, production, and other areas that directly affect human life," Alnazarova emphasized.
President of the National Academy of Sciences Akylbek Kurishbayev stated that the strategy should be aimed at forming a system of full technological cycle in Kazakhstan. "The main result of the strategy is the creation of an effective system capable not only of developing new technologies but also of quickly mastering the best global solutions, adapting them to national conditions, producing, applying, and further improving them within the country," he said.
Expert Recommendations
Experts paid special attention to the development of scientific infrastructure, personnel training, implementation of flagship scientific programs, and the formation of mechanisms for effective introduction of domestic developments. For the healthcare system, the development of biotechnologies opens new opportunities in medical science, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, and other areas of life sciences.
In the future, this will strengthen the country's technological potential and increase the accessibility of modern domestic solutions. The Ministry of Health was recommended to consider the proposals received and take into account the substantiated ones in the further improvement of the strategy and the action plan for its implementation.
Work on the document will continue with the participation of interested state bodies, scientific organizations, and the expert community. The strategy until 2036 lays the foundation for Kazakhstan's transition from individual scientific projects to the systematic development of biotechnologies, aimed at developing its own technologies, introducing them into production, and subsequent widespread application.
