Kazakhmys Corporation has commented on today's protest action by miners. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to information circulating on social media, workers from several mines participated in the strike, demanding higher wages. However, Kazakhmys stated that the strike only took place at the South Zhezkazgan mine.
"Workers from one of the shafts at the South Zhezkazgan mine raised a number of issues regarding material and technical equipment and working conditions, and appealed to the management of the Kazakhmys group of companies. The company's management held a working meeting with representatives of the workforce," the official statement said.
According to the company, the proposals and initiatives voiced by the workers will be considered in accordance with established procedures. "The majority of the issues raised concerned the technical condition of equipment due to insufficient funding over many years. In this regard, management intends to expand the investment program and accelerate its implementation in order to improve working conditions, as well as increase the reliability and safety of production," the company reported.
Currently, the enterprise is operating in normal mode.
