President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan arrived in Doha for a meeting with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The head of state personally expressed condolences to him and members of the ruling family on the death of the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Tokayev noted that Sheikh Hamad played a key role in the formation of modern Qatar, strengthening its international authority, and also made a significant contribution to the development of relations between Kazakhstan and Qatar.
"Sheikh Hamad was a statesman of global scale and a true friend of the Kazakh people," said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The President recalled that Sheikh Hamad visited Kazakhstan twice on official visits. At his initiative, the Al-Farabi Mosque was built in Astana, and a number of social and infrastructure projects were implemented in the early years of the republic's independence.
In turn, the Emir of Qatar thanked Tokayev for his personal visit and support, noting that this reflects the special nature of fraternal relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, at the initiative of the Qatari side, the parties also exchanged views on the current international agenda, including the situation in the Middle East.
At the conclusion of the talks, the President of Kazakhstan confirmed an invitation to the Emir of Qatar to visit Kazakhstan at a convenient time. The invitation was accepted.
