The Financial Monitoring Agency has reported an increase in fraud cases amid its efforts to curb embezzlement in the compulsory social health insurance sector. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to the agency, fraudsters introduce themselves as Agency employees and, citing "identified violations," threaten heads of medical institutions with criminal prosecution. They also demand money, promising not to bring charges in exchange for a bribe.

The scheme was stopped in the Turkistan region. Two individuals, posing as agency employees, attempted to defraud the head of a medical organization of 15 million tenge. After receiving 5 million tenge, the fraudsters demanded the remaining 10 million tenge.

On August 8 of this year, they were caught red-handed. The court sanctioned a preventive measure of detention for the accomplices. The investigation is ongoing.
