The Head of State inspected the operation of Qarmet's converter shop, the Akorda reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The President was shown how pig iron smelted in the blast furnace is converted into steel and then sent to the continuous casting unit and further to rolling.
In 2024, Qarmet carried out major repairs at converters No. 1 and No. 2, completely replaced the housings and installed more modern structures.
"The modernization work will increase the types of products manufactured, increase the volume of steel smelted, and improve the reliability of equipment. In addition, the conversion of a number of technological processes in the shop to natural gas continues," the statement said.
It should be noted that Qarmet plans to produce 4 million tonnes of steel and 3.6 million tonnes of coal this year.
