In Karaganda's Central Park of Culture and Leisure, a rare open-air exhibition was held for Dombyra Day, featuring authentic musical instruments usually kept in museum collections. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Visitors were able to see ancient dombyras that once belonged to great kyuishi (dombyra players) and akyns (poets).
Among the most valuable exhibits were dombyras of People's Artists Kali Baizhanov and Zhamilya Shashkina, and famous akyn Doskey Alimbayev.
Visitors also saw the dombyra of poet, kyuishi and folk musical instrument master Shangerei Manabayev, made by his own hands, as well as the instrument of the famous representative of the Arka school of shertpe-kuy, Kairolla Saduakasov. Another exhibit was the dombyra of kyuishi Abiken Khasenuly, which he gave to a resident of the village of Uspen as a token of gratitude.
"Kali Baizhanov's dombyra is now kept in the Karkaraly District Museum of History and Local Lore. Zhamilya Shashkina's instrument was donated to the Regional Museum of History and Local Lore by the Karaganda Music College named after Tattimbet. Shangerei Manabayev's dombyra was transferred to the Shet District Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum in 1990," said Diana Baltabayeva, a guide at the Karaganda Regional Museum of History and Local Lore.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Kazakhstanis on National Dombyra Day and called this musical instrument an integral part of national identity and the people's heritage.
