A man was arrested in Karaganda for renting out someone else's apartment to other people. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to the regional police department, the 29-year-old man deceived dozens of people. The suspect rented apartments daily through popular online platforms, then posted advertisements offering these apartments for long-term rent at low prices.

"Meeting with interested citizens, he introduced himself as the apartment owner and took advance payments," police said.

Most of the victims were people from other regions. They had no opportunity to check the housing documents and handed over large sums in cash. One such cash transaction was captured by a surveillance camera in the entrance of a multi-story building.

"One of the victims is a 23-year-old resident of the region. She found an attractive ad online and met the suspect. After paying the full amount, the next day when she came to move in, she encountered the legal owner of the apartment. The woman was completely unaware that her home was being sublet to third parties," the regional police department said.

The suspect also deceived a resident of Aktobe in the same way. Investigation is ongoing.
