A 56-year-old man has been detained in Karaganda on suspicion of killing the chairman of a gardening society and a local woman. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing KTK TV channel.
The crime occurred on September 6 at about 19:00 at the exit of the 'Optimist' gardening society. There, the bodies of a 43-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman with gunshot wounds were found.
The deceased turned out to be the chairman of the cooperative, Ivan Korovin, who took this position at the beginning of the gardening season. The woman was returning home from the garden at the time of the attack.
According to the TV channel, the suspect previously headed the same gardening society. It is assumed that he first shot his successor, and then killed the woman who may have accidentally witnessed the incident. After the crime, the man tried to flee, but police located him using surveillance cameras.
"He gave a confession. The suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility," said Bakytzhan Kudiyarov, official representative of the Karaganda region police department.
A criminal case has been opened on the fact of the double murder. Law enforcement agencies continue investigative actions; the official motive for the crime has not yet been announced.
Opinions of members of the gardening society about the deceased were divided. Some characterize Korovin as a responsible leader, under whom pipes were repaired and the territory was improved.
"He maintained order. We often had breaks, pipes were replaced. Good man, I can't say anything bad," said gardener Vladimir Edukov.
Other residents claim that after the change of leadership, problems with water and other utilities arose in the society. Some of them do not believe that the detainee could have committed the murder.
The conflict between the former and new chairmen lasted about three years. The men repeatedly argued and sued, and one of the main subjects of disagreement was the position of head of the gardening society. However, the investigation has not officially confirmed that this conflict was the cause of the murder.
