A vacationer and a rescuer drowned in the Kapshagay reservoir in Konayev. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The tragedy occurred on July 22. A man born in 1998, who was swimming in a specially equipped area, drowned. A lifeguard, Andrey Kozyatinsky, rushed to help him. However, according to the press service of the Emergency Department of Almaty region, due to strong wind and depth, both ended up underwater.

City mayor Ashat Berdikhanov wrote about the rescuer on his social media page: "Andrey Kozyatinsky's action was a real example of courage, selflessness and high human dignity. At the decisive moment, Andrey did not stand aside and, without thinking about his own safety, rushed to help a person in trouble. Only a person with a big heart and strong character can make such a choice," the mayor wrote.

Both bodies were recovered from the water and handed over to the police.
