Kazakhstani clubs Semey and Kairat have secured second places in their respective groups of the main round of the futsal Champions League. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Semey, who opened the tournament by beating hosts Lucenec of Slovakia 6:0, then lost to Barça 1:6. In the third round, the team coached by Spaniard Sergio Altisent conceded first. However, they went ahead before the break in the match against Minerva. Ultimately, they responded to the Swiss side's single goal with five of their own.

Barça, without hitting top gear, hammered 11 goals past the Slovaks. And confidently took first place in the group. Semey finished second.

Kairat secured their place in the playoffs even before the main tournament began. Romanian club United Galati withdrew from the competition. All participating teams of the mini-tournament in Roeselare, Belgium, advanced.

In the final match, the Kairat players, who had beaten Riga's Beitar 5:3 at the start, faced Belgium's Sporting Anderlecht. To win the group, the Kazakhstani side needed a victory. Meanwhile, the hosts, who had defeated the Latvians 6:0, were quite satisfied with a draw.

The match against the Brussels side did not go well for the Almaty team. By the time they started to get something going on the court, the scoreboard already read 0:6. The heavy 3:8 defeat should give plenty of food for thought to Kairat's coaching staff. In the playoffs, the margin for error will be reduced to a minimum.

According to the Champions League regulations, three teams from each of the groups in which our clubs played advanced to the playoffs. The clubs that took the first two places will be seeded in the playoff draw on November 4. And they will play their first matches away.

The Round of 16 matches will take place on November 23 and December 4. The quarterfinals will be held on February 8 and 19. The Final Four will be hosted by the Biel/Bienne Arena in Switzerland. The semifinals are on May 7, the final and the third-place match on May 9.
