Kazakhstani tennis player Yulia Putintseva (84) failed to reach the third round of the US Open 2026. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

In the second round, she lost to 2024 Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen (121) from China in three sets – 4:6, 6:2, 1:6. The match lasted 2 hours and 37 minutes.

Putintseva lost the first set 4:6, but in the second set she managed to turn the tide. The Kazakhstani player played much more confidently in that segment and restored parity – 6:2.

In the decisive set, the advantage shifted to Zheng. The Chinese player conceded only one game and finished the match 6:1.

During the match, Putintseva hit three aces and made four double faults. Zheng significantly outperformed her opponent in winners – 31 to 12, but also made 52 unforced errors against 33 for Putintseva. The Chinese player also hit nine aces and converted five of eight break points. The Kazakhstani player used four of nine opportunities to break her opponent's serve.

Early in the morning, Elena Rybakina will compete for a spot in the third round against Spain's Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. At the start of the tournament, Kazakhstan's top-ranked player confidently defeated 17-year-old American Thea Frodin.

In the men's draw, Alexander Bublik continues his campaign. In the second round, he defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino. Alexander Shevchenko ended his run after losing to Dino Prižmič in five sets.

The US Open is an annual Grand Slam tennis tournament played on hard courts. It is the last of the four majors in the calendar year.
