Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the victory of the ruling Adilet party in the first elections to the unicameral parliament, the Kurultai. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Kremlin, in his telegram Putin wrote: "Dear Kassym-Jomart Kemelovich, please accept my congratulations on the victory of the ruling Adilet party in the first elections to the unicameral parliament, the Kurultai. The high voter turnout and the voting results are a clear testament to the broad support for the course being pursued under your leadership to strengthen domestic political stability, ensure dynamic socio-economic development of the country, and protect its interests on the international arena."
The Russian leader also expressed confidence in continued cooperation between the deputies of the two countries. "I have no doubt that the Kurultai deputies will cooperate fruitfully with Russian parliamentarians to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance between our countries. I wish you and the newly elected people's representatives success in your work, and prosperity and well-being to the fraternal people of Kazakhstan," Putin said.
Earlier, the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan published preliminary results of the elections to the new unicameral parliament. According to the CEC, 71.17% of voters voted for the Adilet party.
