Russian President Vladimir Putin met with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff at the Konstantin Palace in St. Petersburg. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
At the start of the talks, Putin thanked US President Donald Trump for his attention to resolving the conflict in Ukraine and asked about the results of the previous day's consultations between delegations from the US, Ukraine, and the European Union in Norway. The US special envoy said the negotiations in Oslo were productive.
He brought documents to St. Petersburg outlining the parties' positions on the peace process. According to him, there is a basis that could allow the conflict to be ended.
Witkoff expressed hope that Putin would agree to resume trilateral negotiations between the leaders of Russia, the US, and Ukraine. In his opinion, technical issues could be discussed at such a meeting.
Turning to cooperation with the US, Putin stated that Russia is ready to discuss economic projects. According to him, Russia can supply large volumes of fertilizer to the American market. The president said that thanks to the agreement on diesel fuel, prices on the world market have dropped by 5-6%.
Witkoff, on behalf of Trump, thanked Putin for this decision. Putin said he would like to know the US opinion on the situation in Iran and noted that Moscow is ready to help resolve this conflict.
This is Witkoff's ninth visit to Russia. This time, the US president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was unable to participate in the negotiations due to illness.
