Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed expanding the composition of the United Nations Security Council at the expense of countries of the global South. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The Russian leader traveled to India on Friday for a three-day working visit. He is taking part in the BRICS summit.
Putin's statement at the BRICS summit
Speaking at a session during the BRICS summit, Putin said: "Together with like-minded countries in BRICS, we consider it necessary to further contribute to improving the effectiveness of the UN's work. At the same time, an important step would be to expand the composition of the Security Council and increase the representation of countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America in it."
