Russia supports reforming the UN, but changing the organization is impossible without common agreement among all countries. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the plenary session of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

According to Putin, the UN, despite its representative character, is not governed by the collective and democratic principles that were originally envisioned.

According to him, Western countries exert excessive influence on the organization's work, while some states seek to strengthen control at the global level.

The Russian president noted that UN reform should not be limited only to expanding the composition of the Security Council or balancing geographic representation.

"Reforming the UN is not just about expanding the Security Council or taking other measures aimed at ensuring geographically balanced representation. The issue is about giving the organization new content," Putin said.

According to him, East and West, North and South must reach a common agreement on the global order.

"Acute problems have not disappeared. We now need to think about how to preserve global peace," the Russian president said.

Putin also noted the importance of preventing scenarios that could cause the most severe consequences for humanity.
