Kazakhstan is changing its approach to mental health care, shifting focus from treating severe consequences to prevention and early diagnosis. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova detailed the new measures during a briefing at the government. According to the minister, the new measures are part of a comprehensive mental health protection plan for the next four years (2027-2030).

"The plan provides for the integration of mental health specialists into the work of clinics, the development of early diagnosis, digitalization of the patient pathway, strengthening of human resources, and infrastructure renewal," she said.

Alnazarova also emphasized that special attention will be paid to children and adolescents.

At the meeting, relevant departments also presented their proposals. The specifics of the reports were not disclosed. However, it was noted that they were aimed at developing scientific research, training specialists, improving the qualifications of teachers and psychologists, as well as developing the system of special social services and infrastructure for children and adults with disabilities.

As a result, the comprehensive mental health plan for the next four years was approved.

Earlier, it became known that the Ministry of Health is transferring the entire career of medical workers to a unified digital system that will track the entire path of a specialist — from admission to medical college to advanced training, employment, and job changes.

In addition, Kursiv reported that the number of places in medical universities of the republic will now be calculated based on the real needs of hospitals and clinics.
