The Portuguese Football Federation appointed Jorge Jesus as the new head coach of the national team on July 10, 2026. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.

The 71-year-old Jesus has previously coached Portuguese clubs Benfica and Sporting Lisbon. His last job was with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, where he worked with Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Portugal was eliminated from the 2026 World Cup after losing 1-0 to Spain in the round of 16. Jesus replaces Spaniard Roberto Martinez as head coach.

The Portuguese national team wrote on X: "A new journey begins today. Welcome to the National Team, Mister Jorge Jesus."
