The Porsche 911 will not receive a fully electric version, Auto Express reports, citing CEO Michael Leiters. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to Leiters, the future of the iconic sports car is tied to the development of hybrid technologies. "There will be no fully electric 911," the head of the German brand emphasized at the annual shareholders' meeting.
Porsche believes that the high-performance hybrid powertrain, which debuted on the GTS version, will preserve the character of the model. Leiters called the new hybrid system an "elixir of life" for the 911. In his words, this approach will preserve the legendary sports car, which has been a symbol of Porsche for over 60 years.
The abandonment of an electric 911 is part of the company's strategy until 2035. At the same time, the manufacturer will continue to expand its electric vehicle lineup. Porsche acknowledged that the model range has become too complex, so the company is reducing the number of variants. In particular, two versions of the Taycan electric car have already been discontinued in the US.
One of the brand's main hopes is the battery-powered Cayenne Electric. Porsche believes this SUV will become one of the company's key products in the era of electric cars.
The management's statements came amid deteriorating financial performance. In 2025, Porsche's profitability fell from 14.1% to 1.1%. The company expects this figure to rise to 5.5–7.5% in 2026.
Earlier, Kursiv Avto reported that Porsche will stop production of the gasoline-powered Macan in the summer of 2026.
