Kazakhstan is unlikely to agree to Kyrgyzstan's proposal to exchange border plots, as the state border is inviolable. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
This opinion was expressed by Kazakh political scientist Gaziz Abishev. According to him, the Kazakh side will reject this initiative.
Earlier, the press secretary of the President of Kyrgyzstan stated that the Kyrgyz side had sent Kazakhstan a proposal to exchange equivalent land plots. It concerns an 800-meter section near the city of Tokmok, which Kyrgyzstan needs to build a toll highway.
However, according to Gaziz Abishev, the Kazakh side will reject this initiative for two key reasons.
First, the international legal formalization of Kazakhstan's borders is fully completed. The country has made enormous historical efforts to delimit and demarcate every kilometer. All agreements have been signed, including the junction points of borders with Uzbekistan and China. Moreover, the New Constitution directly guarantees the "inviolability and inalienability" of the state's territory. Reopening this issue for a local business project makes no sense.
Second, ceding land would create a dangerous precedent. If Kazakhstan agrees to revise the status quo with one neighbor, other states may come with similar requests in the future.
"Today, businessmen and bureaucrats may try to convince politicians to change the status quo. Tomorrow, such decisions could lead to unpredictable consequences. The issue of land and territory is the foundation of comprehensive stability in international relations. The issue is non-negotiable," Abishev concluded.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan concluded an important bilateral agreement.
