The national company Kazakhstan Railways has announced the start of work on mass connection of passenger trains to the internet. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to Deputy Chairman Anuar Akhmetzhanov, last year a pilot project to distribute internet in carriages via OneWeb and Starlink systems was successfully tested.
"Today, on the instructions of the chairman of the board and the government, we are starting work on mass provision of internet to passenger trains. These measures will apply to trains owned by the national company," Akhmetzhanov said at a briefing at the government.
Currently, the train "Nurly Zhol - Semey" is fully connected to the internet. In addition, terminal installation work is underway on trains on the following routes: - Almaty-Pavlodar (trains No. 31 and 32); - Pavlodar-Turkistan (trains No. 55 and 46); - Nurly Zhol-Atyrau (trains No. 47 and 48).
"There are other trains. We first took trains with high passenger traffic. We plan to provide satellite internet to the main routes by the end of summer," Akhmetzhanov emphasized.
