Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar crushed his rivals on Stage 6 of the Tour de France, conquering the legendary Tourmalet and reclaiming the overall lead. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.
Pogacar completed the 201.5-kilometer stage in 5 hours, 14 minutes, and 23 seconds, finishing 1 minute and 45 seconds ahead of Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard. This gave Pogacar a 45-second lead over Vingegaard in the general classification.
"I feel fantastic. The team did an incredible job today. We won together," Pogacar said at the finish line.
During the stage, Pogacar attacked on the climb to the Tourmalet, breaking away from Vingegaard and other contenders. He reached the summit first and maintained his advantage on the descent.
"I wanted to test my strength today. The Tourmalet is a special climb, and I dreamed of winning here," Pogacar added.
Vingegaard finished second, while Ecuador's Richard Carapaz took third place. French rider Paul Seixas was fourth, and Mexico's Isaac Del Toro finished fifth.
Pogacar's victory strengthened his overall lead. He now leads Vingegaard by 45 seconds and third-placed Carapaz by 1 minute and 32 seconds.
Stage 7 of the Tour de France will take place tomorrow, July 10. The stage covers 165 kilometers and will again pass through mountainous terrain.
