An open form of tuberculosis was detected in a student of the National Revival School No. 17 in Petropavlovsk. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing the TV channel "Astana TV".

The diagnosis was given to a 10th-grade student. He last attended school on May 30.

The acting school director, Yermek Bakhtybayev, said that information about the disease was received on July 14, when children were already on vacation and teachers were on leave.

According to him, on June 26, during a routine medical examination and fluorography, the student was diagnosed with pneumonia. After that, the teenager was sent for treatment to the regional children's hospital, where a CT scan revealed tuberculosis.

The school has more than a thousand students. After reports of the disease in parent chats, representatives of students from grades 2 to 11 were urged to contact polyclinics.

The Petropavlovsk city department of sanitary and epidemiological control has launched an investigation and anti-epidemic measures. Students and teachers of the school are considered potential contact persons.

"We have started anti-epidemic measures - disinfection in the foci and work with contact persons. The circle of contact persons has been determined. Currently, together with the medical organization from which the emergency notification was received, as well as at the place of attachment, an investigation is being conducted related to the registration of the disease," said the head of the department, Daniyar Ospanov.

Specialists have not yet established when exactly the student contracted tuberculosis. The department suggested that the disease could have developed against the background of prolonged pneumonia.

According to the department, no cases of open tuberculosis have been registered in the region over the past two years.

Earlier, "Kursiv" wrote that in Astana an official investigation was launched after tuberculosis was detected in a one-year-old child. The baby's relatives suggested that he could have become infected from a nurse with an open form of the disease, who, according to them, worked at the city children's hospital No. 1. The public health department reported the creation of a commission, but the causes of the disease have not yet been officially established.
