A ceremony unveiling a bust of the classic of Tatar literature, prominent poet and writer Gabdulla Tukay, was held in Petropavl. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Tatarstan head Rustam Minnikhanov, North Kazakhstan region governor Gauyez Nurmukhambetov, and Kazakhstan's ambassador to Russia Dauren Abayev laid flowers at the bust.
Photos published by the Tatarstan head on social media show that the square where the new monument is located is overlooked by murals depicting Kazakh literary figures Magzhan Zhumabayev and Gerold Belger.
"This significant event is timed to the 140th anniversary of the great poet's birth. The creative legacy of Gabdulla Tukay, whose fate is closely linked with Kazakhstan, highlights the common historical roots and cultural ties of our peoples. The opening of the monument to Tukay has become another symbol of friendship between our fraternal peoples," Rustam Minnikhanov wrote on his Telegram channel.
