Police officers detained a man who, according to investigators, brought a large batch of synthetic drug "speed" from Astana to Petropavlovsk for placing in hiding spots. In his backpack, they found 120 packets of the prohibited substance. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the North Kazakhstan Region Police Department, the man picked up the packets in Astana and headed to Petropavlovsk. Here he was supposed to distribute the drugs among hiding places, but did not have time — he was detained by law enforcement officers.
"The examination established that the packets contained the synthetic drug alpha-PVP. The total weight of the seized substance exceeded 273 grams," the department clarified.
According to police, this amount could have been enough for several thousand doses.
The man was placed in a temporary detention facility. A pre-trial investigation is being conducted.
If the suspect's guilt is proven, he could face from seven to 12 years in prison for selling drugs on an especially large scale.
Police are identifying possible accomplices of the detainee.
Earlier, Kursiv reported on a similar detention in Astana: a man was moving in a rented car, and a plastic bag with two kilograms of "speed" was found in his backpack.
