In Petropavl, police stopped a locksmith in time who was about to transfer 3 million tenge to scammers. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
In one of the city's shopping centers, police senior lieutenant Yerkebulan Kurbaniyazov noticed a man who was talking on the phone for a long time near ATMs and was very nervous. Bundles of money were visible in a green bag in his hands.
Yerkebulan showed his service ID and warned the man that there might be scammers on the other end of the line. However, the city resident did not want to listen to the police officer.
The scammers convinced the man that if someone tried to stop him, he should not believe them, and that the police themselves might be criminals trying to take out a loan in his name. Thanks to the police officer's persistence, the man came to his senses and saved his money.
"A 49-year-old citizen working as a locksmith told how the scammers deceived him. First, an automated voice called him and said that the validity period of his electronic digital signature was expiring, and suggested pressing "1" to extend it," the report says.
Then a person who introduced himself as a bank employee called and asked why he had pressed that number. The scammers said that a loan was being issued in his name and convinced him to take out a loan and transfer the money to a "safe account" to solve the problem.
