In Petropavlovsk, dry vegetation caught fire behind the solid waste landfill, near the village of Shakhovskoye. According to preliminary data, the area of the fire is about 6 hectares. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The Emergency Situations Department of the North Kazakhstan Region said firefighters have already extinguished the fire in one section. Firefighting continues in two other sections.
A total of 110 people and 31 units of equipment from the Emergency Situations Department of the North Kazakhstan Region have been deployed to extinguish the fire. An operational headquarters was set up at the scene and four combat sectors were created.
Additionally, a fire train from a railway company was brought in to help with the extinguishing efforts.
The Emergency Situations Department noted that strong winds are contributing to the spread of the fire. The main forces are focused on containing the fire and protecting nearby settlements and facilities.
According to the HALYQSTAN Telegram channel, thick smoke from the fire has reached Petropavlovsk, with residents complaining of the smell of burning and reduced visibility.
The situation remains under the control of the Emergency Situations Department of the North Kazakhstan Region.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that a fire at an active solid waste landfill near the village of Uzynagash in the Almaty Region had been localized. The fire spread over an area of 500 square meters, and 33 people and 22 units of equipment were involved in extinguishing it.
