In the North Kazakhstan region, construction workers discovered the remains of two people and an ancient animal. The unusual find was made near the village of Pribrezhnoe, located near Petropavlovsk. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Discovery during bridge construction
Workers came across the remains during bridge construction. An excavator was working a sand quarry when bones were noticed in the ground. The finds were extracted to the surface, after which police were called to the site.
Police investigation
Law enforcement officers began an investigation. According to preliminary data, no signs of a criminal nature were identified. At the same time, the period to which the human remains belong has not yet been established.
Archaeologist's opinion
One of the found bones was studied by candidate of historical sciences, archaeologist Anatoly Pleshakov. Preliminary, it belongs to a woolly rhinoceros that inhabited this territory approximately until the 12th millennium BC.
"The woolly rhinoceros is, as we say, mammoth fauna, it is from the Paleolithic period, the Ice Age. If it suddenly turns out that at least one of these skulls belongs to the same time, it would be a super sensation. If I already say that finds of mammoth fauna are a sensation, then this would be a super sensation. Because one of the skulls is heavily faceted, so it is quite interesting," said archaeologist Anatoly Pleshakov.
Future plans of scientists
Now scientists must establish the age of the human remains. Specialists plan to thoroughly study the found bones and the sand quarry itself.
