The degree of influence of contacts between Russian and US intelligence agencies on the process of settling the situation in Ukraine depends on the proposed ideas and initiatives. This was stated by Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to Peskov, these contacts are of a closed nature, so their impact depends on specific proposals. He also confirmed the visit of CIA Director John Ratcliffe to Moscow on August 25. Earlier, Peskov told journalists that the visit was related to contacts between intelligence agencies.
Russian President Vladimir Putin was briefed on the meetings, but he did not personally meet with the CIA director. In an interview with Pavel Zarubin, author of the "Vesti" program, Peskov said: "(The impact on the settlement - ed.) depends on those proposals, expressed ideas, but it is closed, so they are contacts between intelligence services."
This statement is seen as one of the steps at the international level to resolve the situation in Ukraine. Given that the results of contacts between intelligence agencies are not disclosed, it is difficult to assess their real impact. However, the existence of such contacts indicates the continuation of dialogue between the two countries.
It is worth noting that earlier Peskov stated that the negotiation process on Ukraine was temporarily suspended. This situation reflects the complexity of relations between Russia and Western countries. Intelligence contacts may play an important role in this process, but their real impact remains unknown for now.
