Beijing's tallest building, the CITIC Tower (China Zun), showed signs of damage on Friday. Images and videos on social media appeared to show debris from a small aircraft. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.
The images showed what appeared to be a hole or broken glass on one side of the building. Hong Kong-based newspaper South China Morning Post reported that a small airplane crashed into the CITIC Tower in Beijing's Central Business District.
Heavy police presence, as well as fire engines and ambulances were seen outside the skyscraper, which stands at 528 meters (1,732 feet).
The cause of the incident was not immediately clear, and authorities have not issued a statement. The authenticity of the images and videos could not be independently confirmed, and they were quickly removed from the internet.
