An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 struck the border region between Kazakhstan and Russia. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Data Center of the Institute of Geophysical Research of the National Nuclear Center of Kazakhstan, the tremors were recorded on July 18, 2026, at 02:09 Astana time.
"The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the border zone of the two countries, approximately 200 kilometers northeast of Pavlodar. The coordinates of the epicenter were 53.36 degrees north latitude and 77.96 degrees east longitude," the statement said.
In addition, on the morning of July 18, seismologists recorded another earthquake, this time with an epicenter in China. It occurred at 10:47 Astana time.
No information has been received about the perceptibility of either earthquake on the territory of Kazakhstan, nor about possible casualties or destruction.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that residents of Taraz felt tremors.
