A criminal case has been opened today following a traffic accident in Pavlodar that left two people dead. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to the regional police department, a Mitsubishi Carisma veered into the oncoming lane on Nazarbayev Avenue and struck three pedestrians. The car then hit a light pole and a bus stop before overturning.

Police said two pedestrians died at the scene. The driver has been placed in a temporary detention facility. A pre-trial investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the incident.

It is worth noting that causing the death of two or more persons by negligence in a traffic accident is punishable by imprisonment for five to ten years.
