Doctors in Pavlodar are fighting for the life of a three-year-old girl. According to her relative, the child lost consciousness during dental treatment. She is currently in the intensive care unit of the regional children's hospital. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The relative wrote about the incident on social media. According to her, on October 21, the condition of her niece, who was having a tooth treated at a dental clinic, deteriorated sharply. The child's eyes bulged and she had difficulty breathing.
According to the relative, despite the mother's panic, the dentist did not stop the treatment, assuring her that "it will calm down now." The woman claims that the clinic staff initially did not immediately respond to the request to call an ambulance. Later, an ambulance was called by a nurse from the neighboring office. According to the relative, the girl lost consciousness and foam came from her mouth.
"In the ambulance, the child's heart stopped. At the regional children's hospital, her heart stopped again," the woman wrote. She said the girl had been unconscious in intensive care for three days and was connected to a ventilator.
Clinic's response
Clinic representatives stated that all medical procedures were carried out in accordance with approved protocols. They also announced the start of an official investigation to establish the circumstances and causes of the incident.
"Until the official investigation is completed, it is premature to draw any conclusions about the guilt of the clinic's staff," the dental clinic's comment said.
The clinic refused to provide detailed information about the patient's treatment, citing the need to protect medical confidentiality and the patient's personal data.
What does the health department say?
According to the Pavlodar Region Health Department, the girl, born in 2023, was delivered by ambulance to the regional children's hospital on October 21 at 15:45. The child was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit.
"The child was admitted to intensive care in an extremely serious condition. Currently, the girl is connected to a ventilator and is receiving intensive treatment," the department reported.
On October 22, Pavlodar doctors held a telemedicine consultation with specialists from the National Scientific Center for Motherhood and Childhood (UMC) and the National Scientific Center for Cardiac Surgery to discuss further treatment tactics. A council of doctors is organized daily at the hospital, and the child's condition is being monitored. The head of the regional health department has taken the situation under personal control.
The department's official comment did not confirm information that the child had fallen into a coma and that her heart had stopped twice.
Currently, law enforcement agencies are investigating the circumstances of the incident. A legal assessment will be given based on the results of the investigation.
