In Pavlodar, the family of a premature baby born weighing about 600 grams is demanding an investigation into the work of perinatal center No. 1. Relatives want to find out how the child suffered a hip fracture and why doctors, according to them, did not respond to the parents' alarm. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to a relative, the boy was born in August and remains in the Pavlodar Regional Perinatal Center No. 1. By October 24, his weight had reached 2,020 grams.
The author of the complaint on social media claims that from October 20 to 23, the parents noticed changes in the color and size of the child's leg and drew the medics' attention to this. According to her, the doctors did not react, and on October 23 they reported a hip fracture.
«When asked where this came from, they answered that the child had injured himself during convulsions. Is that even possible?» the author writes.
She also reported that phones are not allowed into the intensive care unit, so the parents cannot photograph the child's condition. The family asked for an inspection of the institution and the staff's actions.
The parents' complaint was commented on by the health department of the Pavlodar region. The department explained that deeply premature babies may have osteopenia — reduced bone mineralization. According to the department, this complication occurs in 30–55% of cases.
«One of the possible complications is osteopenia of prematurity — reduced bone mineralization, which occurs in 30–55% of cases and can lead to spontaneous fractures even with ordinary limb movements,» the regional health department said.
At the same time, the department did not specify whether osteopenia had been diagnosed in this baby or whether the cause of the fracture had been established.
The regional health department said that the center's administration constantly explains the child's condition and the specifics of observation to the family. They did not disclose details of treatment, citing medical confidentiality. The comment does not mention the appointment of an investigation.
The perinatal center clarified that the boy's condition is stable. He is being monitored jointly with a traumatologist from the regional children's hospital.
According to the center, an X-ray shows a primary bone callus — a sign that the fracture is already healing.
«At the moment, no special treatment is required,» the institution said.
Earlier, «Kursiv» reported that in Astana an official investigation began after a complaint from the mother of a three-month-old child. According to her, her son's condition worsened in the hospital, and after discharge he was hospitalized in another facility that same evening.
In September, the capital also reported an investigation after the death of twins. One child died in the womb, the second shortly after birth. Relatives said the emergency surgery was postponed for several days. The health department promised to assess the situation based on the results of the investigation.
