A hurricane with hail left 11 settlements without power and damaged dozens of roofs and facades in Pavlodar Region over the weekend. Authorities are still assessing the damage. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the regional akimat, the most severe damage was recorded in the village of Kalkaman in the city of Aksu and the village of Kudaykol near Ekibastuz. There, the roofs of two apartment buildings and 47 private houses were partially torn off. In Kalkaman, the facades and windows of two schools and a cultural and leisure center were also damaged, and interior walls collapsed in several apartments of one apartment building.
Due to the disaster, 11 settlements in Aksu and Ekibastuz were left without power. In addition, eight supports were damaged on a section of the 220 kV EEC power line between Kalkaman and Kudaykol.
Currently, power engineers continue emergency restoration work. Power supply has been fully restored in eight settlements, and partially in three others.
Regional akim Asain Baikhanov inspected the damaged facilities, met with local residents, and held an operational meeting with representatives of relevant departments, akimats, civil protection services, and utility companies.
"It is necessary to complete the inspection of all damaged facilities as soon as possible, fully restore power supply, organize repairs of roofs and other damaged structures, and provide necessary assistance to residents of affected houses," the akim instructed.
Special attention, according to him, should be paid to the restoration of schools and other social facilities so that they are timely prepared for further operation.
Meanwhile, special commissions continue to assess the damage. According to the akimat, there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the bad weather.
Recall that the disaster hit the region on July 19. The hurricane wind was accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that six residents of the region, including three teenagers, sought medical help after the bad weather.
In Pavlodar, the hurricane with hail caught football fans by surprise who were watching the World Cup final on the big screen at Ertis Promenade on the embankment. And in Ekibastuz, authorities want to declare a local state of emergency.
