US permanent representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker said a possible agreement between Washington and Kyiv on licensing the production of missiles for the Patriot air defense system will not be reached before this winter. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"A long-term agreement on the production of missiles for the Patriot system will not be reached before this winter," Whitaker said in an interview with Fox Business.
According to him, work in this direction is ongoing, but the US has not yet made a final decision that could be officially announced.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held closed negotiations with White House chief Donald Trump. Following the meeting, Zelensky said the US leader agreed to grant Kyiv a license to produce missiles for the Patriot system.
However, later Donald Trump stated that Washington had not yet made a final decision on this matter. According to him, the issue of transferring such technologies must be approached very carefully, since countries that receive them could use these weapons against the US in the future.
