Paraguayan President Santiago Peña signed a decree declaring June 30 a national holiday to celebrate the team's victory over Germany at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and their historic advance to the Round of 16. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The decree, published by the president on social media platform X, states: "A national holiday is declared on June 30 to celebrate the epic triumph of the Paraguayan national team over Germany and the historic qualification for the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup."

Peña thanked the players for the immense joy and for uniting millions of Paraguayans under one flag once again.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that the German team lost to Paraguay in a penalty shootout in the Round of 32 match and was eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Regular and extra time ended in a 1-1 draw. In the penalty shootout, the Paraguayans were more accurate, winning 4-3. Julio Enciso scored for Paraguay in the 42nd minute.

In the Round of 16 on July 4 in Philadelphia, Paraguay will face the winner of the match between France and Sweden.
