In Central Kazakhstan, at the Alibi reintroduction center in the Altyn Dala state nature reserve, the first foal of Przewalski's horse was born. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
This is the first offspring from horses brought to Kazakhstan under the international reintroduction program. According to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the male foal soon after birth stood on its own, followed its mother, and began to suckle. According to specialists' observations, both are in good condition.
The foal's mother is seven-year-old Tessa, delivered to Kazakhstan in 2024 from Berlin Zoo. The program to return Przewalski's horse to Kazakhstan began in 2024. In 2024, 7 horses were delivered, in 2025 another 7, and in 2026, 8 horses. By 2029, it is planned to bring about 40 horses to Kazakhstan.
