Six workers sustained minor injuries after a sudden stop of the cage at the Orlovskaya mine in the Abai region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The incident occurred on July 1 in the village of Zheskent, Borodulikha district. During movement, the mine cage, used for lifting and lowering workers, landed on a landing dog.

A landing dog is a special mechanical stop in a vertical mine shaft. It fixes the cage at a given level and ensures its precise alignment with horizontal transport routes.

After the sudden stop, six workers sought medical assistance at the enterprise's health center. Three employees were diagnosed with mild bruises. After receiving aid, they were sent for outpatient treatment.

Another three workers underwent additional examination at a hospital in Semey. The results also confirmed mild bruises, and they were prescribed outpatient treatment.

Yermek Dyuzenkeyev, manager of the corporate communications department at KAZ Minerals, said that the causes of the landing dog activation during cage movement will be determined during the investigation.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that KAZ Minerals will launch a copper smelter with a capacity of 300,000 tons of cathode copper per year in the Abai region in 2030-2031.
