In the village of Krugloozernoye near Uralsk, a 10-year-old boy died from an electric shock on the territory of an electrical substation. The police department of the West Kazakhstan region reported that a criminal case has been opened into the child's death. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The incident occurred on the evening of September 1. According to police, the boy born in 2015 climbed onto an electrical substation where he received an electric shock. He then fell to the ground and died at the scene.
"A criminal case has been opened into the death of a minor in the village of Krugloozernoye. A pre-trial investigation is underway. All circumstances of the incident are being established," said Aliya Nauryzgaliyeva, senior inspector for information policy of the West Kazakhstan Region Police Department.
According to the regional publication "My City," local residents claim that the substation territory was not fenced off and the doors of the facility remained unlocked. According to villagers, the voltage at the substation was 10 thousand volts. This information has not been officially confirmed.
Eyewitnesses told regional media that at the time of the incident they saw a bright flash and sparks, after which the child was thrown away from the facility. Children nearby informed the deceased's brother about the incident, who ran to the scene and tried to provide assistance.
Law enforcement officers will have to establish the circumstances of the incident, including checking compliance with safety requirements at the facility.
"The police remind parents of the need to regularly explain to children the rules of safe behavior," added Nauryzgaliyeva.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that in Astana, a five-year-old child received a severe electrical injury in the courtyard of a residential building due to a cable laid to a construction site, and in Kostanay, doctors saved a 15-year-old teenager after an electric arc shock with a voltage of more than 27 thousand volts on the roof of a railway car. In both cases, the victims were hospitalized in serious condition.
