Within the framework of comprehensive modernization of water management infrastructure in the southern regions of Kazakhstan, work has begun on automating 103 irrigation canals. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the total length of these canals is 857 kilometers, covering 65 thousand hectares of irrigated land. Additionally, work is underway to automate 270 canals with a total length of 1,184 kilometers that were previously reconstructed.
Furthermore, 264 projects are being developed for the reconstruction of irrigation canals with the introduction of automation elements and modern water accounting systems.
Importance of digital tools
According to Vice Minister Aslan Abdraimov, the introduction of digital tools allows for the systematic formation of a comprehensive and multi-level water resources management system. This will ensure sustainable development of various economic sectors, guarantee the country's water security, and preserve resources for future generations.
National Information System of Water Resources
The Ministry has developed the National Information System of Water Resources. Currently, data on more than 23 thousand water objects have been digitized and structured in the system. These include 17,758 rivers, 3,148 lakes, and 1,207 hydraulic structures.
