Angry fans in Seoul waited for the arrival of the former head coach of South Korea's men's national football team after the country failed to advance to the World Cup knockout stages. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing BBC News.

Announcing his resignation at a news conference in Mexico on Sunday, Hong Myung-bo said that "we didn't deliver the results that our fans expected".

The announcement came after the country's President Lee Jae Myung said that he felt "not just confusion but utter bewilderment at the unexpected outcome". The president also called for an investigation into reasons behind the team's performance.

Seoul correspondent Jake Kwon explains how Hong went from star captain in 2002 to shamed head coach in 2026.
